2011 Football Signing Day Page

As TheSabre.com does every year, we have created a Football Signing Day page. This page has no 'served' ads. This helps the page to load fast with no interruption from ad servers.

I've put the page together early as Chris Horne has written some notes and provided some quotes on the commitments. Also hidden in the document are capsules for other potential recruits should they commit. If any of them do, I will open up those as well.

This page will be linked at the top of the message boards on Wednesday so that you can have quick access to it. So, be sure to bookmark this page just in case the boards hang up. It's been a while since we had to wait on a top recruit to make a decision regarding Virginia on signing day. I expect that will prompt a lot of visitors and page refreshes. We will update the recruiting signee page as soon as we're made aware of the LOI status of each recruit. We will also post updates on Twitter and Facebook. Also, we will have links available to other resources, like VirginiaSports.com's signing day page.

Go Hoos!

This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Wednesday is National Signing Day! TheSabre.com's Signing Day page is (see above) but obviously may not be complete as Virginia awaits the decisions of the "Big 4."

5-star linebacker Curtis Grant, 4-star athlete Darius Jennings, 4-star athlete Dominique Terrell and 3-star cornerback Jeremiah Hendy are all expected to make their commitments in the coming days, and Virginia is a finalist with all four. At this point, two of the prospects are set to decide Tuesday with the other two waiting until Signing Day.

Grant, who has starred at Hermitage High School since his freshman year, made an official visit to UNC this past weekend. Florida, Ohio State and Virginia round out the 6-3, 220-pound prospect's final four, but most, including me, believe the pick will either be Ohio State or Virginia. Grant is scheduled to reveal his choice at 1:50 p.m. at a press conference at Hermitage. Grant's announcement will be shown on ESPNU.

And Jennings, Gilman's (Baltimore, MD) prized athlete, will likely reveal his choice on Signing Day as well, though, at this point, I don't believe a press conference has been scheduled.

5-10, 175-pound Osbourn (Manassas, VA) star Dominique Terrell will announce his college choice Tuesday, though I hope to confirm the exact time Monday. Miami, Virginia and West Virginia are the finalists. Virginia was considered the favorite heading into this past weekend, when the versatile prospect made an official to Miami. The visit apparently went very well, but we'll find out soon if it was good enough for the Hurricanes to win out.

Hendy is set to announce his decision Tuesday evening at halftime of Bowie's varsity basketball game. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. Iowa, Maryland, N.C. State and Virginia are the finalists, though I don't believe the Pack will be the choice.

TheSabre.com will follow these decisions and any other breaking news throughout the week. Stay tuned on Signing Day for analysis on the class and any other late news that may break.

Poll Results

On The Good Ol Blog last week, TheSabre.com asked fans "Are you encouraged about the future of the UVa men's basketball program?" The results are in and the overwhelming majority (95.65%) responded that they are encouraged about the future of the program. Read the blog post and see the results here.

Blog Banter: The Start Of Something New

Also on The Good Ol Blog last week, TheSabre.com marked the beginning of baseball practice as the team hit the field for the first time on Friday. The Cavaliers are coming into the season ranked No. 15 in Baseball America's Preseason College Top 25, and picked to finish first in the ACC Coastal Division in the coaches poll released Thursday.

"It's nice that people think a lot of our program, that they'd rank us in the top 20 teams in the country," Virgina coach Brian O'Connor said. But, "all that really matters is where you're ranked at the end of the season."

Falcons take Schaub in third round

Only one Cavalier was chosen in the NFL Draft last weekend, but it was one of the best players in school history. Matt Schaub, who owns most of the UVa passing records, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round on Saturday.

Figuring he would go in the second or third round, Schaub played golf Saturday afternoon and returned home to watch the draft on television. He finally got the call at 9:58 p.m. when the Falcons took him with the 90th pick overall.

In Atlanta, Schaub and veteran Ty Detmer are expected to compete for the No. 2 job at quarterback behind Michael Vick.

Deacons Dump Cavaliers
To borrow senior forward Mike Scott's signature catch phrase, Virginia's 76-71 loss at Wake Forest was, in a word, tragic. The Hoos squandered a 10-point lead in the second half, and allowed the Demon Deacons their first ACC victory of the season.

Frustrating For Fans
Image: Mustapha FarrakhanIt's a rough life being a Cavalier fan. Enduring countless disappointments from the major revenue sports, putting up with taunts and jibes from opposing fanbases, and being frustrated at decisions from above have all been a part of my first seven semesters at the University of Virginia. Thursday night's basketball game against Maryland highlighted a few of my major gripes. When the Hoos are good, they're good. But when they're bad ... let's just say things get out of hand in a hurry.

Defense Faltered Other Than Williams' Plan
Image: Assane SeneThe Virginia men's basketball team used a variety of tactics to slow down Maryland post standout Jordan Williams on Thursday night. The Hoos held Williams, who entered the game with 13 consecutive double-doubles, to 4 points and 6 rebounds on just 5 shot attempts with 0 free throws. Unfortunately for UVa, the effort didn't pay off as the Terrapins pulled away to the 66-42 victory.

Maryland Mashes Virginia
Image: Assane SeneWhat's cooler than being cool? Ice cold. No Virginia didn't play those Outkast lyrics throughout the John Paul Jones Arena on Thursday night, but it could have. After all, there's no other way to describe the Hoos' shooting performance against Maryland in a 66-42 ACC loss. 33.3% field goal shooting. 23.5% 3-point shooting. 46.2% free throw shooting.

Image: Joe HarrisThe Virginia men's basketball team picked up an ACC win the last time it hit the floor of the John Paul Jones Arena, netting a 72-64 victory against Georgia Tech. As fans get ready for the showdown with Maryland at the JPJ, take a look at this 56-image photo gallery from the win over the Yellow Jackets that features photos of Joe Harris, Assane Sene, Jontel Evans, and more!

An Apology To Mu
Image: Mustapha FarrakhanI figured it's about time to own up to it. So yes, Mustapha Farrakhan, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for writing you off so early in your career. I'm sorry for pegging you as a "he'll never change and never contribute" category player. I'm sorry I didn't give you a chance to put together a career first. Because now, Farrakhan is proving me wrong. Very wrong.

Football Roundtable: Looking Ahead To 2011
Image: Coach Mike LondonThe Virginia football program took a step forward in 2010 during head coach Mike London's first season at the helm. London and the rest of the coaching staff plan to build on this season's foundation, but it's not only the coaching staff that is looking toward 2011 - media members and fans are also awaiting the next chapter for the Cavaliers. Frank Maloney, host of "Hoos Talking" on Sports Radio 910 in Richmond, TheSabre.com's Kris Wright and Blair Capps as well as Sabre EDGE subscriber The_Superhoo all contribute to a football roundtable discussing the 2010 season and looking ahead to next year.
