Krog Transfers To UVa

Official Release
Virginia Athletic Media Relations

East Carolina women's golfer Lene Krog has transferred to Virginia. She will be a junior for the Cavaliers during the 2007-08 season. While at ECU, she played for new Virginia coach Kim Lewellen.

"I'm excited to have Lene enroll at UVa and be a part of the Cavalier program," Lewellen said. "She will be a great addition to our team, and it also allows her the opportunity to pursue her academic goals. She will be a great representative for a program that is young but has already established itself on a national level."

Krog led East Carolina last year with a 75.69 stroke average and qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing ninth at the East Regional. Her best round of the season was a 5-under 67 during the final round of play at the East Regional held at LSU. She posted seven top-10 finishes in 10 events for the Pirates and shared medalist honors at the Pinehurst Challenge. Krog ended the season ranked No. 75 in the final Golfweek standings and was a second-team pick to the All-Conference USA squad.

This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Football recruiting ...

We will release the "Recruiting Roundtable" later today. JHoo, Kamikaze Hoo, and Mikeysurf join me in answering questions about Virginia's 2008 recruiting class. We take a look at what has transpired to this point, where the staff will go from here with the remaining scholarships and more.

Virginia has received 11 verbal commitments so far in this class, with about 18-20 being the estimated number of signed prospects come next February. Virginia is right in the thick of things with two state of Virginia prospects looking to make summer decisions. Isaiah Hamlette, a 6-3, 250-pound defensive end out of Brooke Point (Stafford, VA), and Peter Rose, a 6-0, 185-pound WR/DB prospect out of Amherst (VA), are expected to make their respective decisions this summer ... and they could decide at any time.

Rose is down to Virginia and Virginia Tech. Hamlette reportedly would like to stay in-state as well and will likely choose between Virginia and Virginia Tech. These two races could go either way, so stay tuned for more later this week.

Also stay tuned for more on Pelion (S.C.) OL Dalton Freeman, who was expected to visit Virginia this past weekend. The 6-6, 270-pound prospect is expected to visit Virginia Tech today before returning home. Freeman, who has received over 20 scholarship offers including recent ones from Florida and Florida State, is one of the top offensive line recruits in South Carolina.

Virginia offered Freeman in the spring and has been recruiting him heavily.

The Pre-Summer Virginia Top 30 was recently released. This week, look for star ratings to be updated in our database.

Basketball recruiting ...

TheSabre.com will try to get the latest on top overall target Ed Davis this week. Rumors have been swirling with the 6-8, 215-pound Benedictine (Richmond, VA) star, who has a solid top three of Connecticut, UNC and UVa. Virginia has done a fantastic job in this race but is currently in a fierce battle with the Huskies and the Heels.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for Edge subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. To sign up for an Edge subscription, please check out the Sabre Edge Sign Up and Information Page. If you're already on board as an Edge subscriber, click the links below to catch up on recruiting.

Sabre Edge recruiting updates from the past week ...

Christian Morris Talks Recruiting
Image: Christian MorrisPower forward/center target Christian Morris lists three schools as his "main" college choices at this point in his recruitment. South Kent School's (CT) 6-8, 270-pound rising senior seems pretty set on making several official visits before making a commitment, although he does not rule out a summer decision.

Where Does UVa Stand with Boykins?
Image: Kerry BoykinsOscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) star wide receiver Kerry Boykins recently narrowed his list to three schools - Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. TheSabre.com caught up with the 6-0, 200-pound prospect - a player we have currently rated at #9 overall in the state of Virginia - for the latest on his decision, including where Virginia currently sits in his final three.

Walker Beginning to Narrow Focus
Image: Deion WalkerThough he hasn't officially narrowed his list of schools, 6-3, 180-pound wide receiver recruit Deion Walker says there are about "14 or 15" schools that he is still seriously considering. Virginia and Virginia Tech remain in serious consideration and Walker hopes to visit both programs this summer.

JHoo's Summer Reading: Tight Ends
Image: Tom SantiI often refer to myself as a Chicken Little type. When it comes to football, you show me a silver lining, I look for the next dark cloud. But with the talent Virginia has at the tight end spot for 2007, that dark cloud is going to be hard to find. Led by Tom Santi and Jonathan Stupar, UVa once again returns a tight end corps that is deep, talented, and versatile.
