A New Football Priority Seating & Parking Policy
Official Release The athletics department at the University of Virginia announced Friday (May 11) that a new football priority seating and parking policy will be implemented in the 2008 season. The new policy provides for a more equitable assignment of season tickets and game day reserved parking passes at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium. "Over the past several years, we have discussed a new seating policy internally and with the Virginia Athletics Foundation Board of Trustees," said Virginia Athletics Director Craig Littlepage. "After extensive research of similar policies at peer institutions and a review of our donor and season ticket holder databases, we have created a policy that will distribute tickets and parking as equitably as possible. Implementing the new policy in the 2008 season is ideal timing to fit into our long term strategic goals for the department." The new policy allows donors to maintain or improve their existing seating and parking locations based on certain giving criteria tied to the Virginia Athletics Foundation's (VAF) annual giving levels and priority point system. It also offers non-donors the opportunity to become donors, improving their seating and parking options. A copy of the new policy was mailed on May 10 to donors and season ticket holders. The 2008 Virginia Football Priority Seating and Parking Policy can also be accessed online at www.virginiaathleticsfoundation.com or Virginiasports.com. "Seating and parking assignments at Scott Stadium have never been completely allocated based on our giving program and priority system," said VAF Executive Director Dirk Katstra. "Our current policy does not allow us to assign tickets and parking passes based on a donor's level of support. The new policy allows us to do that and to meet the growing needs of the athletics department." The athletics department relies heavily on private support through the VAF. The VAF and its donors annually support the athletics department in the following ways:

This Week In Recruiting The Southern Invitational Stay tuned later today, as The Sabre.com will have a wrap-up of UVa's 2008 and 2009 (and some 2010) potential targets that played in this past weekend's Southern Invitational. The turn out in terms of 2008 prospects was not as strong as in recent years, but there were a number of top 2009 prospects on hand. In particular, Boo Williams, strong as always, boasts a strong 16-under squad featuring King's Fork (VA) guard Jaquon Parker and Menchville (VA) forward Marshawn Powell, among others. Parker and Powell are rising juniors. There were some 2008 targets on hand, though. Headlining the group was 6-8 forward Ed Davis, the 5-star prospect out of Benedictine (Richmond, VA). Virginia continues to be in strong shape for Davis, who was recently moved to #2 overall in the Scout.com Spring Top 100. The list ranks the top 100 rising senior prospects in the country. Playing alongside Davis for Boo Williams' 17-under squad is another Virginia 2008 target, 6-8, 275-pound Reggie Johnson. Johnson, who plays for Winston-Salem Prep in North Carolina, is receiving interest from a number of ACC programs. Guard Kevon Moore, a rising senior prospect who is playing AAU ball for Triple Threat, could be another UVa 2008 target. The lefty point guard is very interested in Virginia, a school he has visited on several occasions now.
Patrick Patterson For those of you who haven't heard, 6-8, 235-pound senior Patrick Patterson narrowed his list to Duke, Florida and Kentucky. UVa is no longer in the picture for the Huntington High School (W.V.) 5-star recruit, who had the Cavs in his final six. Patterson is expected to commit and sign a letter of intent with one of his top three schools this week.
The Evaluation Period ... Here are some of the latest notes from the May Evaluation period... Westfield (Chantilly, VA) junior quarterback Mike Glennon added a fifth scholarship offer recently. This one is from the University of Miami (Fl). Duke, Maryland, Miami, Virginia, and Virginia Tech are Glennon's five scholarship offers. ... Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) wide receiver/defensive back Todd Harrelson added an offer from Tennessee. According to sources, Tennessee should be a top player in this race. ... Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) outside linebacker/safety Cameron Johnson added a new offer recently from Illinois. Duke, Georgia, Maryland, Pitt, and Virginia had offered previously. The 6-4 junior prospect, a solid basketball prospect as well, played in this weekend's Southern Invitational. ... Dunbar (Washington, D.C.) defensive lineman Reggie Ellis is obviously one of the top targets for the Hoos. Head coach Al Groh and defensive coordinator Mike London visited Dunbar recently. In fact, they were the first coaches to come in the school. Check out the latest on Ellis in last Friday's EDGE update. Stay tuned for more on the Evaluation period, including the latest from state of Virginia prospects Donovan Miles and Jimmy Bennett this week. Miles is a 6-1, 225-pound linebacker recruit out of Brooke Pointe and he could be close to his next scholarship offer. He already has four in the fold, including UVa and Virginia Tech. The 6-9, 290-pound Bennett, a rising senior out of West Potomac (Alexandria, VA) is one of the top offensive line prospects in the state. He has been offered by UVa as well. For the latest on top prospects in the Virginia Beach area, check out last week's write-up of the Virginia Beach camp. Virginia coaches Bob Price and Mike London were on hand to scout some of the area's best talents, including Ocean Lakes ATH Marcus Davis and Salem RB Kevin Whaley. Whaley just landed an offer from Virginia last week.

Shocking End, But More To Cheer About
The Virginia men's lacrosse team's season ended in stunning fashion on Sunday when Delaware rocked the second-seeded Cavaliers, 14-8, in the NCAA Tournament. That quickly ended any hopes of repeating as the National Champions. Still, UVa coach Dom Starsia said that the disappointing end does not take away from the season as a whole. The Hoos finished 12-4 on the year after losing the opener to Drexel. "I don't know want to overplay the point, but the fact that we played our way back to be a No. 2 seed going into this tournament is a testament to these kids," Starsia said. "It's the body of work that tells the story and we had a great season. We ran into a team that was as athletic or more athletic than we were and that doesn't happen that often. It breaks your heart to have it end like this, but like I said, I think we're all walking out of here with our heads up. One day does not undo all the good things that this group put together." While the men's lacrosse season is over, however, there are still Virginia teams looking for postseason glory. The men's tennis team advanced to its fourth straight Sweet 16 by defeating Hampton and Old Dominion over the weekend. Cav coach Brian Boland told reporters after Saturday's 4-0 romp against ODU that he is "juiced up" and ready to go, adding that "I believe in this team." The fourth-seeded Cavs return to action on Thursday. Meanwhile, the women's lacrosse team rolled past Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. That win avenged last season's loss to the Tigers in the same round of play. UVa takes on North Carolina on Saturday at Klockner Stadium at 2 p.m. The winner moves on to the Final Four so a large crowd could help lift the Cavaliers. Over on the water, the women's crew team crushed the competition at the South/Central Regional Championships this weekend. The No. 5 Hoos swept all five grand final races to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships - the bracket will be announced on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Cavaliers will enter the final competition on a roll - they became the first team in the regional's history to win every race - preliminary, semifinal, and final. And finally, the baseball team is wrapping up the regular season this week before turning its attention to the ACC Tournament and beyond. UVa's final regular season home game is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when Coastal Carolina comes to town.
