4-Star Guard Commits to Virginia!

The Virginia men's basketball program picked up a huge commitment today, when 4-star guard Sylven Landesberg verbally committed to the University of Virginia over Georgia Tech and St. John's. Landesberg, a 6-5, 190-pound guard out of Holy Cross High School (Flushing, N.Y.), announced his decision at a 3:00 p.m. press conference.

One of the top backcourt prospects in the 2008 recruiting class, Landesberg averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds and six assists last season as a junior. Versatile, he has the ability to play the 1, 2 or 3 positions. He is being recruited by Virginia as a combo guard with the ability to play the point guard spot.

Landesberg, who earned scholarship offers from programs across the nation before eventually narrowing his list to three earlier this month, is Virginia's first commitment for the 2008 recruiting class. Stay tuned for more on his decision including comments from Landesberg.
