Schautz Becomes Commitment No. 4 For 2008

Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) ATH Billy Schautz, a 6-4, 220-pound prospect, is the newest member of Virginia's 2008 recruiting class. He pledged his commitment to UVa head coach Al Groh early this evening and becomes the fourth rising senior to commit to the Hoos. Schautz was ending a two-day unofficial visit in Charlottesville. He chose the Hoos over Rutgers and Syracuse, among others.

"Honestly, I had a good idea before I came down that I would commit. They treated me extremely well. They actually put aside a whole day for me. I got to go to class...a Biology class. I got to meet professors, players and of course the coaching staff. I even got to witness a workout. The whole experience just sealed the deal."

Schautz has been a versatile performer throughout his high school career. He has primarily played quarterback on offense, but last season also saw action at wide receiver and tight end. He played defense as well and looks forward to playing defense full time next season. From their early evaluation, the UVa coaches have indicated that H-Back, outside linebacker, and strong safety could be position options for the versatile athlete. Schautz is coming in listed as an athlete, an idea he is excited about.
