Westphal Commits To UVa

UVa received its third verbal commitment of the 2008 recruiting class today, when 6-6, 230-pound TE/DE Tyler Westphal pledged to the Hoos. Westphal, who is out of Menasha High School in Wisconsin, chose Virginia over offers from Minnesota and Western Michigan and serious interest from Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin, among others.

As a junior last season, Westphal racked up 87 tackles including 11.5 sacks from the weak-side defensive end position. He is being recruited by UVa as a tight end, though defensive end or outside linebacker could be possibilities as well.
