Virginia offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson became the second highest NFL Draft pick in school history Saturday when the New York Jets selected him with the No. 4 overall pick. Only "Bullet" Bill Dudley was a higher pick when he went No. 1 overall in 1942 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ferguson is also the highest Cavalier lineman taken since Ray Roberts was the Seattle Seahawks' No .10 selection in 1992. Ferguson, a Freeport, N.Y. native, will be headed near home with the Jets -- and he has quite a resume in tow. A first-team All-American in 2005, Ferguson also earned first-team All-ACC honors in back-to-back seasons. Interestingly, Ferguson did not win the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the player voted by league coaches as the most outstanding blocker in the ACC . Ferguson had long been considered a top 10 lock by draft experts. Rob Rang, Senior Analyst at NFLDraftScout.com predicted that the Jets likely would take Ferguson because he was "among the elite players in the draft" and that New York "would likely be the best fit for him." Stay tuned to the Sabre.com for more information on the Cavaliers' draft picks. Use The Sabre's Features Search to find more articles about D'Brickashaw Ferguson. |
