If you think BoardHost is married to TheSabre.com, well, you're right. He's loved, honored and cherished the website he created eight years ago. Till death do they part.

Mike and Jodie Ingalls
But BoardHost, also known as Michael Glenn Ingalls, took a much more attractive wife last Saturday when he and Jodie Jaylene Alley exchanged vows at Belmont Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Mike and Jodie are a wonderful couple and anyone wishing to offer congratulations can email Mike at [email protected].

Of course, if you're worried about BoardHost's priorities, rest easy. Mike and Jodie went to New York City for their honeymoon but returned just in time to attend the Clemson game last night. Then Mike stayed up till the wee hours of the morning updating the site and preparing a photo gallery for Edge subscribers later today.

Hey, a man can love a woman and a website, right?

This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Football recruiting...

Virginia received its 22nd verbal commitment for the 2005 recruiting class when St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) running back Rashawn Jackson chose the 'Hoos over Florida, Nebraska, Rutgers and Tennessee, among others. Jackson is a 6-1½ , 260-pound tailback who can run the 40 in 4.56 seconds.

Jackson's commitment means that, assuming Olu Hall and Branden Albert both end up signing letters of intent in February, Virginia has a total of 24 verbal commitments.

Jackson was a guest on this week's CavTalk radio program archived for Edge subscribers on TheSabre.com.

Some of the remaining targets on the board include running backs Toney Baker, T.J. Pitts and Mikell Simpson, wide receivers Todd Nolen and Derrick Williams, defensive tackle Marques Slocum, linebacker Brian Cushing, safety Kitt Pommells and athletes Victor "Macho" Harris and Kyle Newell.

Basketball recruiting...

The Cavaliers received yet another commitment, only this time it was for the class of 2006. Stephen Kendall, a 6-4, 175-pound junior shooting guard at Blue Ridge School (Dyke, Va.), committed to UVa over interest from N.C. State, Indiana, Stanford and Vanderbilt, among others.

Kendall, who averaged 10.5 points on just seven shots per game, will likely be the only member of the 2006 recruiting class. The four commitments in 2005 and his commitment mean that UVa will not have any more scholarships available for the 2005 or 2006 classes, barring attrition.

Post of the Week

A classy post from a Clemson fan eating crow...

Subject: Congrats...
Posted by: TigerBait on Thu Oct 7 2004 11:04:12 PM
Message: Great game, 'Hoos. I was wrong about you and about us. Y'all are headed for a top 2 finish in the ACC, we'll be lucky to win 5 games. Tonight showed that there is a large talent differential between these two teams where it counts - at the line of scrimmage. I ran my mouth about how we would win, and we got killed, so I'm here to take my lumps. Again, props to you guys for a great win, albeit over a very average team.

Cavaliers take it to Tigers

Alvin Pearman
Clemson had imploded in its previous three games, committing scores of turnovers, but the Tigers didn't give away Thursday night's game at Scott Stadium. Instead, the Cavaliers took it.

Playing physical football, No. 10 Virginia wore down the visitors and earned a 30-10 victory in front of a national audience on ESPN. Alvin Pearman and Wali Lundy combined for 189 rushing yards behind a powerful offensive line that took charge of a close game in the second half.

The Tigers scored a touchdown on their first drive and led 10-3 after the first quarter, but the Cavaliers gradually assumed control. The defense limited Clemson to 112 yards and no points in the final three quarters. Meanwhile, Marques Hagans helped Virginia convert 14 of 20 third downs and threw for a career-high 225 yards. Connor Hughes kicked three field goals as UVa stayed unbeaten at 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the ACC.

Virginia to start preparing for Seminoles

To some folks, the Cavaliers haven't proven anything yet. After all, they haven't faced a ranked opponent in 2004, and they've played four of their five games at home. (And UVa's fans may have outnumbered Temple's in the lone road game.) If the 'Hoos want national respect, they need to beat a quality team on the road.

Soon enough, they'll get that chance. Virginia plays at No. 8 Florida State on Oct. 16 with an opportunity to establish itself as a bona fide contender for the ACC championship and a BCS bid.

It promises to be among the biggest games in Cavalier football history, so make sure you follow all the pregame news at TheSabre.com.

Colaluca gives Cavs a big win

Nico Colaluca came to Virginia as one of the top soccer recruits in the country, having been named the NSCAA/adidas national high school player of the year in 2003. But through eight games, he had not scored a goal for the Cavaliers.

That changed in dramatic fashion last Saturday when the freshman from Rhode Island headed a pass from Ian Holder into the net in the 76th minute, giving Virginia a 2-1 victory over N.C. State at Klockner Stadium. Colaluca also had an assist on Adam Cristman's goal in the first half.

Another freshman, Jeremy Barlow, scored his first collegiate goal Wednesday as the No. 17 Wahoos routed Liberty, 3-0, at home. The Cavs are now 8-2 going into Saturday's home game against Davidson.

    Women's soccer finally falters

After winning their first nine games to open the soccer season, the Cavalier women had a rough week. They lost 2-1 in overtime at Wake Forest last Friday, then settled for a scoreless draw at Maryland on Tuesday.

Lindsay Gusick's goal in the 76th minute put the third-ranked 'Hoos in front of the Demon Deacons, but Wake answered with a goal 30 seconds later and added the game-winner in OT. Virginia outshot Wake 12-9 and Maryland 28-6 only to come up empty. The Cavs will try to get back on the winning track Saturday when they take on Duke at Klockner Stadium.

Brown, Clark, Smith named UVa captains

Say what you will about the Virginia men's basketball team. It shouldn't lack leadership.

The Cavaliers have three seniors, all of whom were named captains for the 2004-05 season. Elton Brown, Jason Clark and Devin Smith will try to lead the 'Hoos to the NCAA tournament -- and, perhaps, make sure Pete Gillen stays around to coach another senior class. Brown and Smith each earned honorable mention All-ACC recognition last year.

Virginia is in Montreal this weekend for three exhibition games against Canadian teams. The Cavs open the regular season Nov. 19 against Robert Morris.

  • Still Looking Like a Championship Contender, John Galinsky

Image: Alvin PearmanThis may have been Virginia's most satisfying victory of the season in that it was the hardest to earn. The Tigers didn't give this one away, as they did their previous three games. In fact, Clemson played its cleanest game of the season, committing just one turnover (same as UVa). Tommy Bowden's guys were fast as heck and seemed to be motivated. And yet the Cavaliers were still too strong, too tough, too good. No, this wasn't a supreme test of Virginia's mettle. That may come next week in Tallahassee. But in their first game as a top-10 team, their first game in the national spotlight and their first game without Chris Canty, the Wahoos looked legit.

  • Clemson Preview: Absolutes & Desirables, Greg Waters

Image: Marques HagansFor each game, we list five things Virginia needs to do (the absolutes) and five things the Cavaliers would like to do (the desirables). Here are the absolutes and the desirables for Thursday night's game against Clemson. Facing an aggressive Tiger defense, Virginia needs to move the pocket and display the "mobile" Marques Hagans with bootlegs and rollouts. The 'Hoos also need to contain Justin Miller, who has returned three kicks for touchdowns this season.

  • How Do You Stick Your Face in the Fan?, Michael Gillespie

Image: Wahoo FansAs the summer ends and we head toward November, we enter a divided time. Emotions are running high and casual opinions can become heated invective. A unified nation becomes splintered. Politics? Nah. That's child's play. We're talking about the important decisions - stuff like ties vs. orange T-shirts. War in Iraq? Nah. We're debating band uniforms here, people! As interest in Virginia football continues to rise, several factions have emerged as major players on the fan scene. They fill different niches, but each plays an important role in leading the Cavaliers toward success.

  • No Canty, No Problem. Well, Not Really, Greg Waters

How are the Cavaliers coping with the loss of Chris Canty? What is their mindset? How can they replace him or compensate for his absence on the field? Those were the big questions today in the Virginia football team's first media session since the star defensive end was ruled out for the season with a knee injury last week.

  • Meet Will, Sam, Jack and Mike, Nick Sauer

Image: Darryl BlackstockEveryone knows that the linebackers are the crux of Virginia's 3-4 defense, but most people don't know the specific responsibilities of each LB in the scheme. In UVa's playbook, the outside linebackers are called Will and Sam, while the inside backers are Mike and Jack. Right now, the guys playing those positions are Darryl, Dennis, Ahmad and Kai. Having played a little linebacker (very little, admittedly, as a walk-on for the Cavaliers), I'll try to provide some insight into exactly what each linebacker does in the 3-4 and why they are so important.
